Dear NOSSCR members,
The House of Representatives is considering a plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act through the budget process known as “ reconciliation.”
The American Health Care Act, as this plan is known, would cause approximately 24 million Americans, including many Social Security disability claimants, to lose health insurance over the next decade. Among the hardest hit will be middle- and lower-income adults in their 50s and early 60s, who would face large premium increases. Federal funding for Medicaid would also be substantially reduced and those reductions would grow over time. These changes will make it harder for SSI and SSDI claimants to obtain the care necessary for maintaining health and documenting their impairments and limitations.
Adding to the physical, mental, and financial burdens placed on disability claimants—especially when they now must wait an average of 595 days for ALJ hearings—is unconscionable. Please find your Representative’s contact information here http://www.house.gov/ and tell him or her that you oppose the American Health Care Act.
